Are You A Dancer?

Hello Readers,
I'm writing this in concern of those who don't know whether they could be a dancer or not. If you want to be a dancer good keep reading, but you'll have to read my other posts (especially the "Prep' trilogy). Dancing involves a lot of hard work but if you achieve what you wanted then you will be very pleased. It really helps if you  feel the beat in a song and could easily let it consume you, it's this appreciation for music that leads to enjoyment and success. You also may want to take into account what you wear while dancing, skinny jeans aren't ideal because they grip and heat you up easily (if they have some stretch or flex they may be okay).
Make sure that you feel comfortable with what you're and when you're dancing. It just doesn't work when you're feeling all awkward.
Thanks
Matthew

Prep- Balance

Hello Again,
This is the last chapter to the "Prep" trilogy, balance. In a lot of the higher end dance moves (baby freeze- break-dancing) balance is very important. I shall explore a few methods of building up your balance in this post.

Firstly for break-dancing you do a lot of balancing on your hands e.g. freezing, air swipe, 6-step. Although not al of those involve balancing as such, they involve arm strength. So to build up this just prop yourself against a wall while doing a handstand once you get used to hanging there (this may take a few weeks to feel comfortable) try walking around a bit. If you can master this then you're well on the road to success!
Now other dance styles involve balancing on the legs/feet now this involves a slightly different plan of attack. to do a Michael Jackson balance on toes move practice the following. Get a pair of shoes with a hard toe e.g. skate shoes or even (just to start with) hard and horrible school shoes as these shoes have a firm toe. Then sort of push your knees forward and down while lifting up your heel so you're balancing on your toes. Try this and keep practicing, you may need to change the technique a bit because everyone's different and wont all get it the same way.
The last form of balancing would just be balancing on one leg. This is simple enough to practice, all you need to do is practice balancing on one leg and maybe even hop around a bit. If you need help or want to give advice to others and me please email me on cYromatic@live.com

Prep- Strength

Hello Readers,
As a continuation from "Prep- Food" I shall advice you on how to build up your strength. Firstly you want a good diet (see Prep- Food), working out can be hard if you don't have the right diet.
Alot of dancing involves upper body strength you should work out these areas; core(abs) and arms.
To build up you arms start lifting weights, your age really describes how much you should be lifting. If you're -11 you should lift around 1-2kg, 12-14 around 4-5kg and if 16+ you can lift whatever you feel able to. the key is not to start too big because you can damage your mussels especially when your 14 and below as your mussels are still developing and growing.
Now to build up your core you can do a variety of exercises, once again don't push yourself to hard it isn't good for you! A basic one that can be effective is sit-ups, if done properly they act as a quick workout. To perform a sit-up correctly and to maximize effect start off with your feet tucked under a ledge of some sort (under a chair or get a person to hold your feet). This is to stop you from rolling when performing this exercise. Then start against your legs like this^.
Then ease/lean backwards until your back is ALMOST touching the ground the pull yourself upwards without using your hands (or legs, you get more of a work out if you don't touch the ground with your back). Repeat this about 40 times and set yourself a goal e.g. do 5+ more every two days.
This guy is too big! ^_^
Once you've done this you are well on the road to a strong dancing body. Just remember; don't push yourself too far but do push yourself, don't start too big and remember it takes time you cant just do sit-ups for five minutes and expect to turn out all mussely. Remember to keep practicing this builds up your stamina. If you need help or wish to give advice please email me on "cYromatics@live.com".
Thanks
Matt

Prep- Food

Hello Readers,
I've recently discovered that dancing can become almost impossible if you don't build up your strength, balance, and stamina. So to start of you want to be eating a healthy diet (not too much carbohydrates, fat or low protein foods), try to eat 5 fruit/vege a day.
You don't want to eat low protein food because it generally means high sugar or fat content and short lasting energy (meaning you will conk out faster and will want to eat more).
Try to add something healthy to all your meals e.g. if having crackers have some fruit and maybe some cheese to bulk up the snack.
You should NEVER skip breakfast, lunch or dinner (even if you only have a light meal). Attempt to avoid over snacking in between meals (this can spoil your appetite) but if it is light and healthy it is fine. If your feeling a bit low don't be afraid to have something sugary like chocolate or lollies, remember sugar isn't bad for you.. in fact fat and sugar are good for if kept in moderation!
Finally the last pieces of advice is not to push yourself past your comfort zone just ease into the new diet and last but not least EXERCISE! even if you only go for a run or bike once a week get out there and enjoy the outdoors, being a couch potato is not good for your body. If you want some extra advice or help please email at cYromatic@live.com
Good Luck
Matthew

Hello To All Lifeforms

Hello to All,
This is my first post onto this blog. I shall be regularly posting how to's, tips and much much more. Suddenly in the past few months I've had an uncontrollable urge to listen to music (you could say music 'got into my bones') and a reaction to this urge was to dance. I've only just started to teach myself how to dance so suggestions and advice would be helpful, please send any info that should be posted on this site to "cYromatic@live.com". I hope to hear from you and we can learn at the same time and help each other on the road to success!
Thanks
Matt B.
