Prep- Balance

Hello Again,
This is the last chapter to the "Prep" trilogy, balance. In a lot of the higher end dance moves (baby freeze- break-dancing) balance is very important. I shall explore a few methods of building up your balance in this post.

Firstly for break-dancing you do a lot of balancing on your hands e.g. freezing, air swipe, 6-step. Although not al of those involve balancing as such, they involve arm strength. So to build up this just prop yourself against a wall while doing a handstand once you get used to hanging there (this may take a few weeks to feel comfortable) try walking around a bit. If you can master this then you're well on the road to success!
Now other dance styles involve balancing on the legs/feet now this involves a slightly different plan of attack. to do a Michael Jackson balance on toes move practice the following. Get a pair of shoes with a hard toe e.g. skate shoes or even (just to start with) hard and horrible school shoes as these shoes have a firm toe. Then sort of push your knees forward and down while lifting up your heel so you're balancing on your toes. Try this and keep practicing, you may need to change the technique a bit because everyone's different and wont all get it the same way.
The last form of balancing would just be balancing on one leg. This is simple enough to practice, all you need to do is practice balancing on one leg and maybe even hop around a bit. If you need help or want to give advice to others and me please email me on cYromatic@live.com
Thanks
Matt
